Remedies inquiries
Remedies inquiries occur when the Waitangi Tribunal has already found a claim or claims to be well-founded, and the claimants wish the Tribunal to make specific recommendations on the actions the Crown needs to take in order to remedy (alleviate) the prejudice they have suffered. In many cases, claimants ask the Tribunal to exercise its binding powers to order the return of Crown forest licensed land or state-owned enterprise land. Many remedies inquiries proceed on an urgent basis.
