Concerning The claimant alleges that, in breach of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, her whānau and hapū have been prejudicially affected by the Crown’s conduct including the purchase of Mania and the continued development of the Manaia Scenic Reserve without consultation or consideration of Māori interests; Operation of the Native Land Court causing the alienation of claimant hapū’s land interests; Failure to consult with the claimant about the establishment of local government processes and to provide adequate representation at the local government level; Allowing the deliberate release of possums and other animal pests at Tutāmoe causing the decline in the number of native birds; and Use of possum eradication methods which have affected traditional links with the forest as a source of food.

Concerning This claim concerns the Te Totara Block situated near Totara North. The claimants allege that, in breach of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, the Crown’s confiscation, sale and failure to return Māori land to the original owners has prejudicially affected the descendents of Erana Ururoa by causing the forced re-location of the Tahawai hapū due to limited land and other resources; fragmentation of whānau; and loss of connection to their ancestral land and cultural heritage.
