Concerning: a holistic Māori approach to health and wellbeing, particularly regarding mental health and socioeconomic issues. The claimant alleges that the Crown has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi by failing to: • Take a holistic approach to understanding and assisting Māori health and to support spiritual, psychological and emotional, physical and family wellbeing; • Identify and take appropriate steps to adequately address the socioeconomic issues facing Māori that are contributing to ill health; • Work in partnership with Māori to address the causes of Māori ill health; • Implement national, regional and local strategies to assist Māori to reduce health inequalities; • Ensure that the funding and resources distributed to District Health Boards is distributed according to need; • Adequately investigate the housing needs of Māori with mental illness; • Act in partnership with Māori with mental illnesses and their whānau; and • Ensure that key Crown agencies are working together with Māori to ascertain their needs and provide appropriate support and assistance.
