Concerning:The claim concerns the failure of the Crown to provide for the healthcare of Māori in respect to weight-related health issues. In particular, the failure to: • Provide sufficient education around healthy and nutritious eating; • Provide access to education and addiction programmes; • Incorporate a whanau-centric focus into programmes on healthy eating and overcoming eating addictions; • Provide publicly funded gastric surgeries for Māori, along with culturally appropriate support before and after surgeries; and • Provide post-surgery support in relation to programmes available and information on how Māori can participate.

Concerning: The claim concerns the failure of the Crown to provide for the healthcare of Māori in respect of their susceptibility to disease, and disproportionate loss of life and loss of good health. The claimant alleges that the Crown has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi by failing to: • Provide health services necessary to stem the disproportionate loss of life and loss of good health amongst Māori; • Provide accessible services for good health; • Recognise Māori have difficulties in accessing doctors or specialists services; • Address the high cost of transport and consultation fees; • Address the unclear or misunderstood medical information provided to Māori in relation to serious illness; and • Provide equal funding to Māori health service providers.
